DAY 17...Nothing Adult about Adult Entertainment

"If you understand others, you will be kind to others. Knowing a man well never leads to hate, and almost
always leads to love."
- John Steinbeck

Getting to know someone is a sign of maturity. Using someone as a play toy is a sign of immaturity.  In a class at Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Theology, Dr. Philip Mamalakis explains that there is nothing "Adult" about "Adult Entertainment." One goes to a place by themselves, watches others do something, get some thrill and leaves.  It is actually rather childish.

This is not a post to shame anyone. As you know this site is far from that of which shames people. But looking at it from a different point of view may help when it comes to realizing how strange it is. As a kid one's curiosity may take you to a site or a even a magazine, but as one gets older, it is imperative to grow up and out of those curiosities.

It has become increasingly obvious that those who talk about pornography as a joke in public are either completely ignorant of the harmful effects it has on themselves and society as a whole or they are actually trying to make a confession they struggle to make. They are trying to connect with people about something that actually disconnects or detaches one person from another.

Growing up is sometimes difficult. When we hear someone talk about it in public, it is ok to say, "I don't like that stuff." It's ok to gently and lovingly let someone know that pornography isn't cool and people using others isn't right and really immature. Stand your ground. It might be your perspective that gives someone else the courage to stand up against their own issues and grow up.

There is a difference between being childish and childlike...we'll talk about that tomorrow.

More about how pornography is damaging to society coming soon.

Today's Instructions:
A. Pray for the day, for friends, for family, for enemies. Thanksgiving, Requests, Praise.
B. In the Fortify Program, Update the battle tracker. Go to Week 3. Check out, "Be Social" and "How We Got Here: The Almighty Dollar"
C. Go to the daily readings and read today's Scripture.
D. Journal the following: 1. What are some childish things you still do? 2. What's the difference between being childish and child like?

Today's Tips: When the urges come get up. Stop. Breathe. Write down a list of things you can do that will make you proud of the day you just had. It could be building something with your hands or perhaps knocking off some things from your check list. Then go do it.

God give you strength. See you tomorrow.
