DAY 23...Set Your Course

"If I find myself with a desire no experience in this world can satisfy, the most probable answer is, I was made for another world." – C.S. Lewis

It's week four and now I'm suggesting to set your course? It's never too late to reorient yourself. Keep in mind however, the further off course you get, the longer the journey back to the right path may be.

We're all on a journey. While we don't get to choose where we start, we do get to choose what paths we take. We make decisions daily that help take us on our way. It is often said that our final destination is dependent on the decisions we make each day. While that is true, there is always something that drives our decisions. It is the course we set that drives each choice we make. So what is it that drives the choices we make?

We must orient our compass in the right direction from the start so that we may make the right choices. If someone is deciding between a kale smoothy or ten sliders, what decision they make may have an impact on how they feel afterwards. However what are the determining factors that would cause someone to make a certain choice? If someone is deciding based solely on taste then perhaps they might choose the sliders but if someone has a more healthy orientation, their choice may be different. It is not the actual choice that is made that creates the end result, but the desire behind the choice that gets us to the end result.

In the clip above from Pirates of the Caribbean, Jack Sparrow explains what his compass points to.

What is it that you want most? The decisions you make will be based on that. Do you want instant gratification or do you want a stable mind, body, and soul? Do you want temporary happiness or do you want real connections to others? Do you want earthly wealth? or do you want eternal paradise? If you want eternal joy, what you want is Christ and orienting yourself toward him will change the way you make all your choices.

How do you orient yourself toward Christ? Get to know him. Read the Bible, Pray (talk to him), go to Church, join a Church family/community, explore for more knowledge of Him.

Orient your compass toward Christ and all that He is and teaches, and you will find the course set may take you over tough terrain, but isn't that just a part of every explorer's quest? The reward will have been much greater than the risk.

Today's Instructions:
A. Pray for the day, for friends, for family, for enemies. Thanksgiving, Requests, Praise.
B. In the Fortify Program, Update the battle tracker. Go to Week 4. Check out, "Synthetic Sexuality: What Porn Really Is" and "How Would You Respond?"
C. Go to the daily readings and read today's Scripture.
D. Journal the following: 1. What do you want most? 2. What choices are you making to get there?

Today's Tips: When the urges come get up. Stop. Breathe. Pray. Go somewhere, perhaps take your journal and write down names of people you think you should pray for more often than you do. Then say a prayer for them.

God give you strength. See you tomorrow.
