DAY 5...It's Science

"It's Science"  - Ron Burgundy

While Ron Burgundy may have been referring to the brain, his "science" was a little off. Ours in relation to porn habits, is not and it's getting better. Understanding the way the brain works is important. The brain is filled with chemicals that react similarly to when one takes drugs or gets high on something. People used to say, "Pornography isn't a drug so it's not addictive." Yet, it's been proven that people can be addicted to many "non-drugs" including, shopping, gambling, and eating. It doesn't need to be a hard drug to be addictive because our brain provides the drugs.
As our brain responds to our behavior, we change. Our brain gets rewired to a different course with different tastes and things that excite us. It causes people to view others differently. Perhaps first as sex objects which tells us that porn impacts pretty much everyone. Then it impacts the way a husband or wife looks at their spouse. Recently a study was conducted where it was found that 56% of divorces sited that pornography use was a contributing factor to the divorce. (That's only the admitted cases). That's a huge number and if we don't get a hold of this problem, that number is going to increase with the next generation and the family as we know it will be forever changed.

The good news is, with connection, as seen on day 2's video, we can change and our brain can be rewired to our original healthy state. Don't be discouraged, positive change is still possible.

Today's Instructions:
A. Pray for the day, for friends, for family, for enemies. Thanksgiving, Requests, Praise.
B. In the Fortify Program, Update the battle tracker. Watch Video 5, Battle Tracker and answer the "Pay Closer Attention"
C. Go to the daily readings and read today's Scripture.
D. Journal the following: 1. What is a short term personal goal, unrelated to this habit? 2. What is a long term personal goal unrelated to this habit?

Todays Tips: The first thing you have to do is get up, away from your computer and leave the room. This may often include leaving your phone as well. Today however, use your phone as a phone. Set up a lunch or dinner meeting for next week with someone. Anyone. Even if it is inviting someone over for a meal. Connect. Connect. Connect with people. Then put your phone down and go for a walk.

God give you strength. See you tomorrow.
